Steven Sexton
Dr. Steven Sexton is an experienced economist who applies microeconomic theory and econometric methods to analyze firm and consumer behavior, evaluate policy impacts and market outcomes, and identify cause-and-effect relationships.
He has advised companies on California’s Global Warming Solutions Act. He has evaluated air pollution as related to environmental and transportation policy, as well as renewable technology adoption, the environmental impacts of agricultural production, and marketing of agricultural commodities, among other topics. He has also provided expert reports and guidance to clients in several matters, including class certification, and has testified on damages.
Dr. Sexton has been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Economic Perspectives, The Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and Marketing Science. His work and commentary have been featured in US and international media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and NPR.
Dr. Sexton is a visiting associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley while on leave from Duke University, where he is a tenured associate professor of public policy and economics, a faculty fellow of the Duke University Energy Initiative, and an inaugural Climate Change Faculty Fellow. At Duke, his research focused on industrial organization of energy markets and energy, environmental, and agriculture policy. Previously, Dr. Sexton was an executive fellow in the office of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
