
Samantha Welch
Samantha Welch is a leader in BRG’s Financial Institution Advisory practice who leverages over two decades of experience in financial services to bring innovative and practical solutions to clients’ toughest compliance and risk challenges.
Samantha Welch works with clients to address anti-money laundering (AML), counterterrorism finance, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, fraud, regulatory compliance, and reputational risk challenges. She works with a range of financial institutions including banks, broker dealers/futures commission merchants, money services businesses, digital asset companies and exchanges, and investment advisory and private equity firms.
Before joining BRG, Ms. Welch was a partner in the Financial Services segment of an international management consulting firm. Her consulting experience includes AML and sanctions gap analyses, financial crimes program enhancement and remediation, Know Your Customer (KYC) remediation and process improvement, operational efficiency assessment and implementation, financial crimes risk assessments, large-scale investigations to identify potential tax evasion and financial crimes, analysis of reputational risk management processes related to anti-bribery compliance, and organizational redesign related to risk governance frameworks. Ms. Welch also served as deputy to the Chief Compliance Officer of a New York-based wholesale banking branch of a foreign financial institution.
Before her consulting career, Ms. Welch held compliance and operations positions at some of the world’s largest financial institutions. Her in-house work focused primarily on financial crimes risk and compliance. She served as a Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/AML compliance officer managing all aspects of an AML program for a US-based capital markets business of a foreign financial institution. Ms. Welch also served as a line-of-business compliance officer and subject-matter expert on a large KYC remediation project launched in response to two consent orders against a global financial institution. In addition to writing tailored policies and procedures for the global banking and markets (GBM) businesses, Ms. Welch’s responsibilities included acting as an escalation point for client onboarding staff for both the GBM and payments and cash management businesses.
Ms. Welch’s financial services career began with supporting client onboarding applications as a business systems analyst for a large retail brokerage house, experience that was critical to enhancing the global financial institution’s KYC and onboarding processes. Ms. Welch later was an executive director at a large financial institution, where she managed regulatory compliance requirements for multiple treasury services businesses.
Ms. Welch is a trusted advisor to financial institution leaders and provides unique expertise to deliver actionable solutions that meet regulatory expectations. She has served on industry panels and authored thought leadership articles.
