Mandy Asgeirsson
Mandy Asgeirsson is a director with BRG in Washington, DC, and works with the firm’s Health Analytics practice. She provides consulting services to healthcare clients and their counsel related to damages calculations, government investigations, and internal investigations. She works with publicly available Medicare data and private, internal, or electronic medical records data sets to benchmark clients against peers.
Ms. Asgeirsson’s work often involves managing the analysis of large sets of data to identify trends for clients or create damages models. Much of her work has focused on short-term acute-care hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities, and post-acute care providers (including skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, long-term acute care, home health agencies, and hospice). She has also worked with physician groups, contract therapists, specialty facilities, medical device manufacturers, and clinical laboratories and uses data to understand trends and potential exposure in large Anti-Kickback and False Claims Act cases. Her work with providers typically relates to disputes and investigations between providers and governmental agencies.
She also has experience working with payers. With Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, she assists in internal investigations, government investigations, and audits, specifically related to risk adjustment and submission of diagnosis codes to CMS. She uses complex data analyses, and connects the many datasets generated in the MA space to help her clients understand the larger picture. She has a unique understanding of the mechanisms with which the federal government compensates MA plans and can calculate the financial impact “but-for” a given trend or activity. Ms. Asgeirsson also works with payers undergoing litigation or investigation regarding the reasonableness of rates and has experience estimating the reasonable rate for a given service.
