Gary Johnson
Gary Johnson leads BRG’s Pharmacy team. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in hospital administration and leading hospital supply chain and pharmacy services.
Before joining BRG, Dr. Johnson held the role of chief innovation officer within a health system. His accomplishments included restructuring ambulatory pharmacy services; increasing annual net operating margin (profit) from $12 million to $235 million; and restructuring a Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, including a new physician chair and membership, which facilitated lowered average drugs costs of $3 million per year. He also partnered with the dean of a College of Pharmacy to restructure adjunct faculty positions, including didactic responsibilities of clinical staff; and implemented laboratory point-of-care testing in an emergency department, which manages more than 50,000 patients per year.
Previously, Dr. Johnson migrated a medication distribution model from a cart-based to a Pyxis-centric model and reduced a departmental full-time-equivalent turnover rate from 22 to 11 percent. He expanded a Pharmacy Residency program, including the creation of a specialty pharmacy management residency and a specialty information technology residency.
Additionally, Dr. Johnson restructured a product implementation process by realigning support and operations and restructured sales support and engineering with pharmacy technicians. He developed an acute care professional services division to provide consultant services; developed training programs for staff; and implemented a pharmacy-licensed research facility to test and calibrate medications with various forms of automation.
