
Dennis Beling
Dennis Beling has twenty years’ experience as a competition economist gained in both the public and private sectors.
Mr. Beling’s work has covered a range of competition issues and industries, recently focused on complex mergers and abuse of dominance cases, often in the technology sector. He has worked on a wide range of competition issues, including merger control, abuse of market power, cartel investigations, market studies, applications for exemption from competition rules and damages. His work has covered industries including technology (hardware, software, platforms), communication services (telecommunications, satellites), financial services (wholesale/retail banking, insurance), construction, chemicals, energy, packaging and transport.
Mr. Beling has significant experience in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. As former chief economist of the Hong Kong Competition Commission, he contributed economic analysis to a broad range of competition and policy issues. He has also advised clients throughout APAC on a wide range of matters as a consultant.
One focus of Mr. Beling’s practice is merger control, and he has extensive experience in providing economic advice in the context of complex transactions. He also has significant experience in cases involving abuses of dominance. In recent years, he has regularly worked on competition and regulatory issues in the digital economy.
Mr. Beling was educated at the University of Hamburg and at the University of Sydney, where he obtained master’s degrees in economics. He is fluent in English and German.
