BRG announced that Ceren Canal Aruoba has joined the firm’s Consumer Protection, Product Liability, and Environment practice as a managing director in Washington, D.C.

With 20 years of experience advising clients on complex product liability, healthcare and antitrust disputes, Canal Aruoba will co-lead the new practice alongside Managing Director Kristina Shampanier and Director Gina Waterfield. The practice focuses on consumer protection and product liability matters, including class certification defense across all industries. The practice will be enhanced by BRG’s global network of top academic and industry experts in economics, finance and marketing who address issues related to product liability, consumer protection, mass tort, and environmental litigation.

“Ceren’s impressive track record consulting on a wide range of high-profile consumer protection and product liability matters in court, mediation and arbitration makes her an invaluable addition to this burgeoning team,” said David Sunding, vice chairman of BRG and leader of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition practice. “We’re excited to have her on board as the practice group’s third co-leader—and look forward to further growth in the months and years to come.”

Canal Aruoba utilizes analytical and economic tools and methods such as surveys and content analysis, addressing client needs in advertising, consumer behavior (e.g., online retail environments) and data privacy issues. She also has substantial expertise with consumer-decision making process and purchase behavior in online retail environments including assessing alleged dark patterns in user interfaces. She also consults on price impact and damages and brings expansive industry experience, with particular expertise in the automobile, education, pharmaceutical and technology markets. Throughout her career, she has counseled clients on consumer class action lawsuits and product liability disputes involving deceptive retail-pricing claims, false advertising, product misrepresentation, product labeling, and allegations of data breach.

“I’m thrilled to join this new practice at BRG, which has long been a leader in expert services and complex business disputes,” said Canal Aruoba. “I’m confident that working alongside such highly respected professionals as Gina and Kristina, who have complementary skills, will allow us to grow into a first-in-class practice at BRG.”

In addition to her consulting practice, Canal Aruoba serves as vice chair of the Advertising Disputes and Litigation Committee for the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law. She holds a BA and BSE in economics and systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in business administration from The Wharton School.
