BRG has announced the appointment of Carlo Papa as chief economics advisor to its Rome office. An internationally renowned economics expert focusing on innovation and sustainability, Dr. Papa will support BRG in its activities across fields including climate change, energy procedures, operations and litigation.
Dr. Papa has over 30 years of experience in energy, economics and finance with focus on innovation, climate and sustainability spanning leading roles, including at Enel Group and on the Impact Advisory Board of SACE, the Italian Export Credit Agency. Dr. Papa also serves as a senior fellow at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI), a joint center of Columbia Law School and the Earth Institute at Columbia University. He acts as a regular lecturer and contributor to prestigious institutions and scientific journals.
Dr. Papa holds a PhD in management engineering from the University of Rome Tor Vergata and the TRIUM Global Executive MBA jointly issued by NYU-LSE-HEC. He is actively involved in major thinktank activities as a fellow of the Aspen Institute and the German Marshall Fund of United States; and a member of Chatham House, the UN Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition and the Italian Society for Climate Sciences. Working with African and international institutions, he initiated the African School of Regulation and serves on the board of Harambee Africa International.
“We are delighted to welcome Carlo to the rapidly growing BRG team in Italy”, said Francesco Lo Passo, a managing director and head of BRG’s Italian offices. “Carlo’s deep and wide-ranging expertise on energy and sustainability issues will no doubt prove invaluable to clients looking to navigate ongoing uncertainty in relation to quantifying the economics of climate change”.
Commenting on his arrival, Dr. Papa said: “BRG is the go-to destination for leading thought leaders globally, combining academic research with unparalleled real-world expertise. I look forward to working with BRG’s global team and contributing to the firm’s growth story as we continue to build our presence in Italy and beyond”.
While based in Rome, Dr. Papa’s role will have a broad geographical footprint. His appointment follows news earlier this year that BRG bolstered its European offering with the additions of utilities and energy expert Giordano Colarullo in Rome and telecommunications, media and technology expert Cosimo Fischietti in Milan.
