Jason Moretz presented “Boarders, Boarders, Everywhere: Who’s Gonna Pay and Why Should I Care” on November 3.

He analyzed the current state of emergency department (ED) holding and factors that affect it, including ED staffing, inpatient length of stay (LOS), inpatient staffing, and hospital real estate. He discussed holding and boarding patients and how different accounting methods are used to calculate costs due to patient holding and LOS.
