ABA 2024 Antitrust Spring Meeting

April 10-12, 2024
Intelligence That Works

On April 10, Dr. James Langenfeld, a co-chair of the ABA Antitrust Section’s Economics Committee, joined the panel “Fundamentals – Economics,” which explored fundamentals of antitrust economics in a practical and accessible way.

On April 11, Dr. Rosa M. Abrantes-Metz spoke on the panel “Mind Your Exchanges—Talk Isn’t Always Cheap,” presented by the Cartel & Criminal Practice, Joint Conduct, and Pricing Conduct Committees. The discussion highlighted Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) withdrawing guidelines that provided safe harbors to some types of information sharing and collaborative conduct, citing advances in technology and greater reliance on algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI). How should firms navigate this new environment? If AI can achieve collusive outcomes, do we need new tools to distinguish between procompetitive information sharing and anticompetitive conduct?
