Case Study
Health System CDI Program Improvement
Eisenhower Health is a not-for-profit healthcare system located in Riverside County, California. The system features a 463-bed hospital that offers urgent care, emergency care, and more than fifty specialty care services. Eisenhower’s facilities are recognized as Centers of Excellence in Cancer, Cardiology, and Orthopedics.
To improve efficiencies, quality of care, and patient experience, Eisenhower identified the need to revitalize its clinical documentation integrity (CDI) program. Leadership wanted to focus on ensuring accurate and complete inpatient medical records through improved collaboration between clinical documentation specialists (CDSs) and physicians to document clinical diagnoses and severity of illness (SOI).
Eisenhower brought in BRG to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the system’s existing CDI program and identify process inefficiencies, optimize staffing, address knowledge deficits, and facilitate collaboration between the coding and CDI teams.
